Federated Insurance Sacramento State Student-Athlete of the Week, Sept. 25-Oct. 1

Senior setter Kennedy Kurtz has been named the Federated Insurance Sacramento State Student-Athlete of the Week after helping lead the volleyball team to a pair of three-set road sweeps against Big Sky Conference opposition. That includes Saturday’s sweep of Portland State in a showdown of the lone two unbeaten teams in the Big Sky’s South Division.

Kurtz, who is a team co-captain, finished the week with stat sheet stuffing averages of 1.33 kills, 12.17 assists, 0.67 aces, 2.33 digs and 1.00 blocks per set while hitting .412. The Tucson, Ariz., native combined for eight kills, 73 assists, four aces, 14 digs and six blocks while also accumulating 15.5 points.

In Thursday’s win at Montana, Kurtz tied her career high with seven kills while also hitting .462 (7-1-13) with 36 assists, one ace, four digs and a pair of blocks. She followed that effort up two days later in the win at Portland State after finishing with 37 assists, three aces, 10 digs and four blocks.

Kurtz quarterbacked a Hornet offense that finished the week with an average of 15.67 kills per set with a very efficient .286 hitting percentage.
