Sacramento State Student-Athlete of the Week, Oct. 8-14
Mikaela Nocetti has been selected as Sacramento State’s Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the Hornets to home sweeps of Idaho State and Weber State. The victories allowed Sacramento State to move into a tie for first place in the Big Sky Conference standings. Despite both victories lasting just three sets, Nocetti had at least 18 kills in each match while averaging a massive 6.50 kills per set. She also averaged 3.17 digs and 6.75 points per set while hitting .290. That included 39 kills with just 10 errors in 100 swings.
In the Hornets’ sweep of Idaho State on Thursday, the team co-captain had 21 kills (two shy of her career high) to go along with an ace, six digs and a .288 hitting percentage. The 21 kills were 10 more than any other player on the floor, and she provided the kill at 24-22 of the third set that sealed the win. In Saturday’s sweep of Weber State, Nocetti provided the set-clinching kill in all three frames, which included a kill at 24-23 of the first. The Carmichael, Calif., native finished with 18 kills, 13 digs, one block and a .292 hitting percentage. Of her 18 kills, nine came in the third set. The 18 kills were also six more than any other player from either team.
A first team all-Big Sky selection a year ago, Nocetti now leads the conference with 4.01 kills per set.
