MEN OPEN SEASON WITH TEAM TITLE AT AGGIE OPEN; WOMEN FINISH SECOND

Reesey Byers led the Hornets to the men's team title at the Aggie Open on Friday night.
DAVIS, Calif. —Reesey Byers finished second to lead five top 10 finishers and help the Sacramento State men's team win the Aggie Open cross country meet Friday at Putah Creek Reserve.
The Hornets scored 35 points to edge UC Davis (36) for the team title. Fresno State was a distant third with 55 points.
Byers ran 18:19.1 and finished 8.2 seconds behind UC Davis' Trevor Halsted for the top spot. Sophomore Dominic D'Acquisto ran 18:36.4 to place seventh overall and gave him the second fastest time on the team in his Hornet debut.
The Hornets dominated the top 12, claiming spots 9-12. Senior Chris Romo led the group with a ninth-place showing in 18:40.6. Daniel Mitchell was 10th in 18:41.4. Nathanael Litwiller ran 18:42.3 to finish 11th and Kyle Lackner placed 12th in 18:42.9.
In the women's race, Chloe Berlioux posted the best time by a Sacramento State runner, finishing in 14:36.7 to place ninth. Justine Rea was 14th in 14:41.3 and Teresa Mallory ran 15:00.8 to place 19th.
Lauren Mugnaini and Veronica Stinnett,, who are both redshirting this season and competed unattached, finished fifth and eight, respectively.
UC Davis accounted for the top four finishers in the women's race en route to winning the team title. Aycia Cridebring had the fastest time in the race in 14:05.
The Aggies tallied 15 points and were followed by Sacramento State (61) and Fresno State (64).
The Hornets will next compete at the annual Hornet Jamboree on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Granite Regional Park.
