BYERS, REA LEAD CROSS COUNTRY AT DOC ADAMS INVITATIONAL

DAVIS, Calif. — Led by Reesey Byers and Justine Rea the Sacramento State men's and women's cross country teams had their final tune-ups before the NCAA West Regionals at the Doc Adams Invitational on Saturday. Byers finished in sixth place to lead the men's team while Rea placed 15th for the women.
Byers completed the 8K course in a time of 23:50.2 which put him just 18.3 seconds off of individual winner ANdrew Berberic of Stanford. Benny Willers finished second on the team and 17th overall in 24:51.2. Sacramento State was also represented by Steve Kutsch who was 24th in 25:23.9, Mustafa Abbas (30th, 25:36.8) and McConnell Harvey (34th, 25:5.4).
Rea ran 21:49.3 in the women's 6K race. Collier Lawrence, who was competing unattached, won the race in 20:41.0. Lora Marchini ran 21:57.1 to place 21st overall. Ashley Chavez and McKenzie Paul were close behind in 26th and 28th place, respectively. Chavez ran 22:16.4 while Paul crossed the line in 22:18.5. Freshmen Teresa Mallory and Adrianna Royal also competed for the Hornets. Mallory ran 23:04.5 to place 48th and Royal was 52nd in 23:27.4
Sacramento State will next compete at the NCAA West Regional at Stanford on Saturday, Nov. 12.
