ROMO, LEWIS LEAD CROSS COUNTRY AT HORNET JAMBOREE

9/11/2010

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Chris Romo finished fifth to lead the Sacramento State men and Erin Lewis placed ninth to pace the Hornet women at the Hornet Jamboree, Saturday at Granite Regional Park.

As a team, Sacramento State finished second on the men's side and third on the women's. UC Davis won the men's team title while Cal took the women's crown.

The meet also counted toward the Causeway Cup — the annual all-sports competition between the Hornets and Aggies. UC Davis won both races and now leads 15-5.

UC Davis' Jon Peterson finished first in the men's 4-mile race with a time of 19:53. Krista Drechsler of UCD was the winner of the 5K women's race, crossing the line in 17:23.

Sacramento State had three runners finish among the top 10 in the men's race. Along with Romo, Cole Youlger ran 20:26 to place eighth and Nathanel Litwiller was ninth in 20:28. The Hornets also counted the times of freshman Reesey Byers (14th/20:47) and Kyle Lackner (16th/20:55).

The Hornet women finished with 73 total points to place third behind Cal (40) and UC Davis (50). Sacramento State was able to earn its first victory over USF (76), which placed fourth.

Individually, freshman Lauren Mugnaini was 13th overall and second on the team with a time of 18:17. Lora Marchini was one second behind Mugnaini and placed 15th. Lea Wallace (17th/18:27) and Veronica Stinnett (20th/18:36) provided the team's final two scoring times.
