WOMEN FINISH SECOND, MEN THIRD IN CROSS COUNTRY DEBUT

DAVIS, Calif. — The Sacramento State women finished second and the men placed third at the 2008 Aggie Open, Saturday morning at Putah Creek Reserve. Host UC Davis finished first in both competitions.
The Hornet women were led by junior Kristina Holtz who finished sixth overall in a time of 21:58.50. The team also had four other top-20 showings as Lora Marchini was 10th in 22:29.90, Erin Lewis ran 22:36.00 to place 13th , Erin Wachter was 17th in 23:35.70 and Renisha Robinson was 19th in 23:48.80.
Jason Sey paced the Hornet men by finishing fifth in 25:40.60 over the 8K course. Ben Rinn was second on the squad in 26:39.30 which placed 16th overall. Myko Lucas was 19th overall in 26:58.10 and freshman Kyle Lackner was 21st in 27:02.20.
UC Davis’s Kim Conley won the women’s race by nearly 30 seconds outracing teammate Kaitlin Gregg, 21:09.80-21:39.40, for the top two spots. Saint Mary’s Karrie Hagedorn was third in 21:50.70.
Patrick Parsel of UC Davis finished first in the men’s race with a time of 25;08.10. Saint Mary’s Mario Mendoza was second in 25:20.10 and Paul Wellman, who was running unattached, placed third in 25:25.80.
The team will continue its season next week as it hosts the annual Hornet Jamboree on Sept. 13. The meet will take place at Granite Regional Park.
