WOMEN FINISH 1ST, MEN 4TH AT SANTA CLARA BRONCO INVITATIONAL

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — The Sacramento State women won the open division title and the men finished fourth in the invitational, Saturday afternoon at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational at Baylands Park.
The Hornet women easily won the team title, scoring 25 points and finishing 26 ahead of second-place George Fox University. San Jose State (56), Westmont (115), and Modesto JC (136) completed the top five.
Sacramento State was led by Erin Wachter, who ran 19:00 to finish third overall. Wachter was closely followed by Mary Wagner, Jodie Leal, and Lora Marchini, who finished fifth through seventh, respectively. Wagner ran 19:03, Leal crossed the finished line in 19:05 and Marchini clocked 19:08. Renisha Robinson placed 10th overall in 19:14 and Athena Gillen rounded out the lineup by running 20:10 to finish 21st.
The men’s team showed well in the highly-competitive invitational division. Colin Szehner ran 25:10 to place 12th overall. Szehner was also the eighth fastest collegiate runner in the race. Jeffrey Paneda was one spot back in 25:12. Daniel Carlson ran 25:34 to place 32nd, David Rabinowitz finished 53rd in 25:58, and Scott Grose ran 26:10 and ranked 59th overall to account for the scorers. Jason Sey ran 27:07 and was 109th.
Long Beach recorded four top-10 finishers to win the team title. The 49ers scored 85 points and finished ahead of Loyola Marymount (111), UC Davis (117), Sacramento State (139) and Cal State Fullerton (160) in the top five.
Sacramento State will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 27, when it travels to Missoula, Mont., for the Big Sky Conference Championships.
