ROBINSON, PANEDA LEAD CROSS COUNTRY AT STANFORD

STANFORD, Calif. — Freshman Renisha Robinson finished ninth in the women’s 4K race and senior Jeffrey Paneda was 31st overall in the men’s 8K case to lead the Sacramento State women’s and men’s cross country teams, respectively, at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday.

Robinson led a group of three Hornet women who scored in the top 20. The freshman ran 14:51 and averaged 5:59 per mile over the course at the Stanford Golf Course. Robinson finished just under a minute behind Simon Fraser’s Kristen Kolstad who finished first in 13:56.

The women’s team, which placed fourth overall, also saw Jodie Leal score in 13th place and Lora Marchini tally 17 points. Leal ran 15:20 while Marchini clocked a time of 15:32. Erin Wachter followed shortly behind in 15:50 and Mary Wagner completed the scorers in 16:01.

Simon Fraser won the team title with 35 points. Azusa Pacific was second at 58 and Victoria took third with 60.

In the men’s race, Paneda finished 46 seconds of Danny Carlson to lead the team. Paneda averaged 5:00 per mile and was within one minute of the top 10 finishers. Behind Carslon (25:38) were Scott Grose (26:26), David Rabinowitz (26:26) and Jason Sey (26:55).

Sacramento State will next compete at the Santa Clara Invitational on Oct. 13. The meet will serve as the final tune-up for the Hornets before the Big Sky Conference Championships.

Host Stanford won the team title with 37 points. Cal was second with 66 and UC Santa Barbara took third with 97. The Hornets placed 19th out of the 32 team field.

Scott Bauhs, who was running unattached, finished first overall on 23:07. Aron Rono of Azusa Pacific was the top collegiate finisher in 23:13.
