MEN FINISH FIRST, WOMEN THIRD AT HORNET JAMBOREE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Colin Szehner finished fourth overall and was one of six Sacramento State men to place in the top 10 at the second annual Hornet Jamboree on Saturday at Granite Regional Park. The Hornet men finished first in the team standings while the women placed third.
Szehner ran 24:35 over the 8K course and finished 36 seconds behind the winner, Kelsey Cody. Fresno State’s Erick Garcia took second in 24:18 while Dominic Vogl placed third in 24:22.
The rest of the Hornet men followed closely behind. Daniel Carlson was fifth (24:41), Jeffrey Paneda placed seventh (25:01), Scott Grose took eighth (25:05), Jason Sey was ninth (25:25) and David Rabinowitz finished 10th (25:31).
The men scored 20 points and finished ahead of Fresno State (39) and Santa Clara (75).
In the women’s race, freshman Renisha Robinson led Sacramento State by placing 13th overall. Robinson ran 19:31 on the 5K course. Fellow newcomers Lora Marchini (19:42) and Jodie Leal (19:46) were 16th and 17th, respectively, and Erin Wachter (20:03) placed19th overall. Mary Wagner (21st, 20:36) and Athena Gillen (23rd, 20:49) completed the Hornet lineup.
Nevada edged Fresno State, 28-27, to win the team title. Sacramento State scored 80 points to place third, Pacific was fourth (103) and Notre Dame de Namur finished fifth (133).
Fresno State’s Marissa McPhail recorded the fastest time in the women’s race, running 18:27.
