CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT STANFORD INVITATIONAL

STANFORD, Calif. --- The Sacramento State men's and women's cross country teams returned to action at the Stanford Invitational, Saturday afternoon. The Hornet men finished in ninth place and were led by Dominic Vogl while the women placed 12th and were paced by Kristina Hotlz.

Stanford won both team titles. The Cardinal men scored 42 points to edge UC Santa Barbara (56). The women tallied 24 which easily topped second-place UC Irvine (115).

Vogl ran 25:05 to place 43rd in the men's 8K race. The top four Hornet finishers were tightly bunched as each finished the course in a 24-second span. Daniel Carlson was 46th overall in 25:13, Jose Garcia ran 25:26 to place 55th and Jason Sey finished 69th in 25:29. Garrett Infausto completed the Hornet scorers after running 26:23 to place 80th.

Stanford's Neftalem Araia ran 23:31 to capure first place in the men's race.

Holtz ran the 6K women's course in 22:10. Erin Wachter was second on the team and 63rd overall in 23:02. Kathryn Cunningham ran 23:07 to place 64th, Grecia Garcia was 77th in 23:29 and Mary Wagner ran 23:59 to place 93rd. Beatrice Mireles (24:08) and Brooklynn Solomon (24:59) completed the Hornet runners.

Arianna Lambie of Stanford finished first overall in 20:13.

The Sacramento State men also had three runners in the 4K race. VJ Blair was 10th in 12:57, Jeffrey Paneda placed 11th in 12:59 and David Rabinowitz was 19th in 13:20.

The Stanford Invitational is one of the largest meets in the country. Aside from numerous high school meets, the men's 8K had 222 competitors while the women's 6K race featured 124 runners. The collegiate short course races also combined to have 204 racers.
