BYERS, MITCHELL LEAD CROSS COUNTRY AT NCAA WEST REGIONAL

STANFORD, Calif. — Reesey Byers and Rachel Mitchell each recorded one of the top five finishes in school history at the NCAA Cross Country West Regional on Saturday at Stanford. As a team, the Hornet men finished 20th while the women were 21st.

Byers completed the 10K course in 30:31 to place 50th overall in a field which consisted of the majority of the Pac-12 Conference. His time was the fastest in school history at the NCAA Regional and his place was tied for the fifth best in the Hornet record book.

Mitchell ran 21:28 over the 6K course to finish 47th. Her time was the second fastest all-time by a Hornet while her place is the fourth highest.

Stanford won the men's team race while Washington captured the women's team titles.

Behind Byers, the Hornets also had solid showings from Cole Younger and Benny Willers. Younger placed 93rd overall in a time of 31:23 and Willers ran 32:04 to place 128th. Both of their times move into the top 10 in school history at the NCAA Regional. Younger is now fourth while Willers is 10th. The team also counted times from Zach Kaylor (32:17/136th) and Steve Kutsch (32:19/139th).

For the women, Lauren Mugnaini ranked second on the team and 101st overall with a time of 22:12. Three other Hornets crossed the line within 33 seconds led by Veronica Stinnett (121st/22:28). Lora Marchini was 132nd in 22:38 and Justine Rea ran 22:45 to place 136th.

Lawi Lalang of Arizona won the men's race with a time of 28:34. Oregon's Jordan Hasay was the women's champion in 19:44.
