WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES SECOND, MEN THIRD AT SAN FRANCISCO STATE

SAN FRANCISCO —
The Sacramento State women placed second and the men finished third at the San Francisco State Invitational, Friday afternoon at Golden Gate Park.

The women were led by sophomore Justine Rea who finished fifth overall and fourth among collegiate athletes. Rea completed the 6K course in 22:31.9. Alicia Freese, who was competing unattached, won the race in 21:42.1.

The Hornets scored 46 points to finish second behind San Francisco (29). The Dons had four of the top 10 collegiate finishers en route to their victory.

Behind Rea, Sacramento State also had McKenzie Paul run 22:37.6 to place seventh. Breanna Lewis was 11th in 22:50.4. Lauren Mugnaini and Ashley Chavez also finished among the top 15 and counted toward the team score. Mugaini ran 23:01.4 to place 13th while Chavez was 15th in 23:16.9

 Mark Frazier had the fastest time for the men. Frazier ran 25:54.8 over the 8K course to place 15th overall in a race which featured several unattached competitors. One of those entries was Daniel Tapia who won the race in 24:35.6

Benny Willers was close behind Frazier, running 26:02.5 to place 22nd. Steve Kutsch posted a time of 26:11.5 and finished 26th. The final two counting times for the Hornets belonged to Luke Frazier (34th/26:21.7) McConnell Harey (37th/26:28.3).

Host San Francisco State won the team title with 68 points. The Gators were followed in the top five by Mesa College (83), Sacramento State (97), Humboldt State (110) and San Francisco (110).

Sacramento State will next compete at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Oct. 15.
