MEN AND WOMEN EACH FINISH THIRD AT HORNET JAMBOREE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's and women's cross country teams each finished third at the Hornet Jamboree on Saturday at Granite Regional Park.
UC Davis finished first in the women's 5K race with 33 points. Cal was a close second with 34 while the Hornets tallied 69 to place third.
Cal had the top two individual finishers as Deborah Maier ran away from the field to become the champion. Maier ran 16:31 and finished 31 seconds ahead of teammate Taylor Dutch who was second.
Minnesota dominated the men's race, claiming the top five finishers in the 4-mile race. Pieter Gagnon finished first in 19:28 to edge teammates Hassan Mead and Andrew Larsen who each had the same time.
Sophomore Reesey Byers placed sixth overall and was the top finisher for Sacramento State, running 19:36. Cole Younger was 10th in 19:44 and Zach Kaylor ran 20:13 to finish 22nd.
Minnesota scored 15 points to finish first. Fresno State narrowly topped Sacramento State for second. The Bulldogs amassed 91 points while the Hornets had 93. Santa Clara (97) and California (97) completed the top five.
