MITCHELL, YOUNGER LEAD CROSS COUNTRY IN SEASON OPENING MEET AT DAVIS

Rachel Mithcell and Cole Younger each finished among the top three at the Aggie Open.
DAVIS, Calif. —Rachel Mitchell and Cole Younger led the Sacramento State women's and men's cross country teams, respectively, at the Aggie Open on Friday night.
Mitchell finished third with a 4K time of 13:58. Sophomore Veronica Stinnett was one spot back in 14:03. The women's top five finishers also included Lauren Mugnaini who ran 14:11 and placed eighth. Laura Marchini finished 11th in 14:39 and Justine Rea was 15th in 14:38.
On the men's side, Younger finished second overall in 18:16 on a 6K course. Reesey Byers was third after running 18:30. Steven Kutsch also cracked the top 10, with a time of 19:11 to place 10th.
Both individual winners came from UC Davis. Krista Drechsler won the women's race in 13:54 and Jon Peterson was the men's champion in 17:59.
Sacramento State returns to action next weekend at the Hornet Jamboree. The meet, which is the lone home contest of the season for the Hornets, features both high school and college races at Granite Regional Park.
