CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES IN FOUR RACES AT SANTA CLARA

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's and women's cross country team competed in four races at the Santa Clara Invitational, Saturday afternoon at Baylands Park.
The Hornet women began the day with the open race and finished first in the team standings with 39 points. Cal State East Bay was second with 80 and San Jose State placed third with 102. Individually, Danzel Bradshaw placed seventh in the field in a time of 19:20. Her time was the second best among collegiate athletes in the field. Athena Gillen was 12th in 19:12 and Krystal Buck placed 16th in 19:36. The team also received top-30 showings from Kelly Lewis (19:54, 26th) and Kirsten Reed (19:56, 28th).
In the women's invitational race. Kristina Holtz ran 17:51 to finish 19th among the 156 entries. Caprice Bradshaw ranked second on the team and was 29th overall in 18:01. Lea Wallace (18:10) and Rachel Mitchell (18:14) were close behind, placing 36th and 38th, respectively. Renisha Robinson completed the scorers by placing 49th in 18:27.
As a team, Sacramento State finished fourth with 147 points. New Mexico State captured the team title with 49 points. San Francisco (89), Long Beach State (104), Sacramento State and Nevada (166) completed the top five.
In the men's invitational race, Scott Grose and Chris Romo each placed in the top 10. Grose completed the 8K course in 24:45 to place seventh overall. His time was 13 seconds behind the winning time of Santa Clara's Robbie Reid. Romo was one spot back of Grose with a time of 24:46. Nathanael Litwiller was 47th in 25:35 and Daniel Mitchell ran 25:49 to place 61st.
The Hornets finished sixth in the team standings with 174 points. Long Beach State captured the title with 69 points to edge Fresno State (72). Boise State (126) was third followed by Santa Clara (132) and San Francisco (144) in the top five..
Scott Case had the fastest time for Sacramento State in the men's open race. Case ran 28:21 to place 27th. The Hornets did not have enough entries in the race to earn a team score.
