WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RANKED 12TH IN USTFCCCA POLL

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's cross country team was ranked 12th in the West Region in the initial poll by the United Stats Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association, it was announced today.

The ranking is the highest for the Hornets in the school's Div. I era. Last season, Sacramento State ranked 15th heading into the NCAA West Regional and held that spot at the meet. The West Region contains all the school's in the Pacific-10 Conference as well as the West Coast and Big West conferences. The Hornets are the fourth highest team in the region outside of the Pac-10.

Defending national champion Washington holds the top spot in the poll. The Huskies are followed in the top five by Oregon, Stanford, Arizona State and Arizona.

Sacramento State has competed in two meets this season, finishing fourth at the USF Invitational and third at last weekend's Hornet Jamboree. The team will next compete at the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 26.
