SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's cross country team finished second and the women third at the annual Hornet Jamboree, Saturday morning at Granite Regional Park.
The Hornet men were led by Chris Romo and Scott Grose, who each finished in the top six. Romo ran the 4-mile course in 19:54 to place fourth while Grose crossed the line in 19:58 to place sixth. Overall, Sacramento State scored 72 points and trailed only UC Davis who finished first with 23. The remainder of the top five was comprised of California (81), Santa Clara (100) and San Francisco (111).
Freshman Rachel Mitchell led the women's team for the second straight week. Mitchell posted a 5K time of 18:03 to finish seventh. Senior Kristina Holtz ran 18:13 in her opening race of the year to place 12th. Sacramento State also had three other top-20 finishers as Lea Wallace was 14th (18:18), Erin Lewis was 15th (18:21) and Caprice Bradshaw was 17th (18:30).
UC Davis captured the women's team title with 34 points. California was second with 64 which was one point ahead of the Hornets. Santa Clara was fourth with 94 while San Francisco was fifth with 154.
Jon Peterson was the individual winner of the men's race in 19:34. Santa Clara's Stephanie Wilson was the women's champion in 17:23.
