CROSS COUNTRY TO HOST HORNET JAMBOREE ON SATURDAY MORNING

9/9/2009

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State cross country program will host the annual Hornet Jamboree, this Saturday, Sept. 12, at Granite Regional Park.

The meet will begin with a pair of high school races at 8:15 a.m. The college competition gets under way with the women's 5K race at 9:15 a.m. The men will follow with a 4-mile race at 9:45.

The field for the 2009 Jamboree includes men's and women's teams from Sacramento State, UC Davis, San Francisco, California, Fresno State, San Jose State and Stanislaus State. The women's race will also include Nevada, Pacific and Sonoma State.

Last year, Sacramento State captured the men's title with 35 points while UC Davis was second with 52. The Hornets claimed the top three individual times in the race, led by Scott Grose in 19:53.

San Francisco won the women's competition with 57 points, just ahead of Santa Clara (60). Michelle Born of USF was the individual champion in 17:27.

Aside from the talented field, the 2009 Jamboree will also serve as the Causeway Cup matchup for both the men's and women's cross country teams. The Causeway Cup is an annual all-sports competition between Sacramento State and UC Davis. Five points will be at stake in both races. The 2009-10 standings are currently tied, 2.5-2.5, after the two schools played to a 1-1 draw in women's soccer.

Granite Regional Park is located on Ramona Road directly off of Power Inn.
