VOGL RECORDS TOP 20 FINISH TO LEAD MEN, HOLTZ GUIDES WOMEN AT STANFORD INVITATIONAL

STANFORD, Calif. — Sacramento State senior Dominic Vogl finished 20th overall and ran the 19th fastest time by a collegiate athlete to lead the Hornets men’s cross country team at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday. Junior Kristina Holtz was the top finisher for the women, placing 37th overall and 36th among collegiate runners.
Stanford won both team titles. The Cardinal men scored 39 points and easily bettered second-place Cal (87). Arkansas (103), Chirco State (122) and UC Santa Barbara (142) completed the men’s top five. Stanford finished with 43 points in the women’s race while UC Davis (122), Azusa Pacific (183), California (191) and UCLA (202) finished second through fifth, respectively. The Hornet men were 12th overall with 359 points and the women placed 17th with 421.
Vogl ran 25:09 over the 8K course and fellow senior Colins Szehner clocked the second fastest time on the team (25:36) to place 32nd. Junior Scott Grose was one spot back in 25:37. Sophomore Myko Lucas ran 27:27 and Kyle Lackner completed the course in 27:39 to round out the scorers for the team. Garrett Infausto (27.41, 145th) and Jason Sey (27:57, 152nd) also competed for Sacramento State.
Holtz’s time of 22:28 was clearly the best time on the team in the 6K event. Caprice Bradshaw, who was making her Hornet debut, ran 23:17 to place 86th. Senior Jodie Leal ran 23:8 and was 89th. Erin Lewis recorded a time of 23:23 to place 97th and Erin Wachter ran 23:36 to finish 113th. Sophomores Renisha Robinson (23:41) and Lora Marchini (23:57) were 116th and 130th, respectively.
Chico State’s Scotty Bauhs was the winner of the men’s race in 23:45 and UC Irvine’s Laura Olvera won the women’s event in 20:42.
Both team’s will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 4, when they compete at the Doc Adams Invitational hosted by UC Davis.
