CROSS COUNTRY LED BY THOMSON AND DUNCAN AT SCU BRONCO INVITATIONAL

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Tristen Thomson and Cagnei Duncan, once again, found themselves pacing the Sacramento State men's and women's cross country teams on Saturday at the SCU Bronco Invitational at Baylands Park. The Hornet men finished in 18th place while the women were 15th.

Thomson led the men's team for the third consecutive meet and tied his season best by completing the 8K course in 24:41.4. That time placed him 26th overall. Elijah Changco ranked second on the team and was 43rd overall in 24:54.8. Santiago Ruiz added a time of 25:56.2 (123rd) and Shane Marshall crossed in 26:07.3 (131st). Abraham Maldonado provided the final time towards the team total by running 26:08.1 to place 132nd.

Duncan placed fourth overall and set a career 6K best with a time of 20:27.3. That time left her just 10 seconds behind the winner, San Jose State's Jenny Sandoval, who ran 20:17.6. Duncan's time bettered her previous best of 20:51.25 which came earlier at the UC Riverside Invitational. She has led the team in all four meets this year.

Rachel Victor finished in 44th place in 21:44.7 to rank second on the team for the second consecutive week. Rosemary David ran 22:01.2 to place 89th overall and Blayney Dolan was 115th in 22:18.4. Emma Armstrong scored for the team by placing 127th in 22:24.5.

UC Santa Barbara won the men's team title with 52 points. The Gauchos were followed by Utah Valley (68), Lamar (113), Pepperdine (180) and Santa Clara (218) in the top five. Sacramento State totaled 425 to finish 18th.

Utah Valley had the top score in the women's race with 105 points. Wyoming was second at 148 and were trailed by Rice (157), San Jose State (160) and Grand Canyon (166) in a tight battle for third through fifth. The Hornet women scored 361 to place 15th.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Big Sky Championships in Greeley, Colo., on Saturday, Nov. 2.
