QUINONES FINISHES SECOND TO LEAD CROSS COUNTRY AT CAPITAL CROSS CHALLENGE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Amy Quinones recorded her second top three finish of the young cross country season as the senior placed second at the Capital Cross Challenge on Saturday at Haggin Oaks Golf Course. Quinones had the fastest time by a collegiate athlete at the meet, running 21:18.4 over the 6K course. Her time left her just under 10 seconds behind Jenica Dodge who was the women's overall winner while competing unattached.

Andres Sandoval paced the Hornet men's team for the second time in three meets this season. Sandoval completed the 8K course in 24:46.5 to finish 17th overall.

The Hornet women finished in seventh place in the 26-team meet. Sacramento State had 224 points and finished sixth among NCAA Div. I teams. UC Davis claimed the women's team title with 76 points. The Aggies were followed by Loyola Marymount (91) and Grand Canyon (95) in the top three. The men's team finished eighth with a total of 240. Chico State defended its title to win the meet with 42 points.

Rachel Victor ranked second for the women and placed 37th overall at 22:10.4. Denise Reis, Blayney Dolan and Amelia Pear also finished in the top half of the field. Reis was 57th in 22:39.7. Dolan ran 22:57.6 to finish 81st and Pear was 86th in 23:02.1.

The men had five finishers in the top 100. Ross Walker was second on the squad in 25:24.5 to finish in 46th place. Tristen Thomson, who led the team in its last meet, was close behind to place 66th in 25:36.0. Santiago Ruiz and Shane Marshall finished 92nd and 94th, respectively. Ruiz crossed in 25:56.0 while Marshall was one second behind.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13. The team will then host the Big Sky Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Haggin Oaks.
