CHANGCO, QUINONES LEAD CROSS COUNTRY AGAIN AT CAPITAL CROSS CHALLENGE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For the second time in as many weeks. Elijah Changco and Amy Quinones posted the fastest times for the Sacramento State men's and women's cross country teams. Competing at the Capital Cross Challenge at Haggin Oaks, the Hornet men finished in fifth place while the women were 10th.

Changco placed 13th overall with a time of 24:44.2 over the 8K course. That mark placed him seventh among Div. i athletes in the field and left him 45 seconds behind the winning time of 23:59.4 from William Reyes of the Hoka Aggies which set a meet record. Ryan Salcido ranked second on the team and 42nd overall with a time of 25:20.1. He was followed on the team by Tyler Sickler who ran 25:35.6 to finish in 61st place. Aidan Schraer provided the final score towards the team total by placing 64th in 25:39.9.

Chico State won the team title with 70 points and was followed by Cal Poly Pomona with 87 points. Loyola Marymount had the best score among Div. I schools with 122 points. The Lions were followed by Cal State Fullerton (138) and the Hornets (204).

Quinones ran 21:22.1 to finish in 11th place to lead the Sacramento State women. Danielle Shanahan of LMU easily won the race with a time of 20:23.2 which placed her nearly seven seconds ahead of the closest competitor. Gracie Albano had the second fastest time among the Hornets after running 22:09.5 to place 44th overall. Megan Auernig was close behind in 68th place after running 22:35.5. She was followed by Savanna Perez (22:54.9, 87th place) and Rachel Victor (23:07.8, 99th place).

San Jose State finished first in the women's team standings with 62 points. The Spartans had three of the top five collegiate finishers and were 20 points ahead of second-place Nevada. The remainder of the top five was comprised of Loyola Marymount (115), Chico State (134) and Southern Utah (148). Sacramento State finished in 10th place with 285 points.

The Hornet men's and women's teams will next compete at the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, Calif., on Oct. 14.
