CROSS COUNTRY LED BY CHANGCO AND QUINONES AT UC RIVERSIDE INVITE

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Elijah Changco and Amy Quinones recorded the fastest times for the Sacramento State men's and women's cross country teams, respectively, at the UC Riverside XC Invite on Saturday.

Changco helped the men to a sixth place finish in the 8K Invitational race. The sophomore ran 24:57.0 to finish just over a minute behind the race leader — Utah Valley's Tyson Lambert. Senior Tyler Sickler ranked second on the team and was 30th overall in 25:10.5. Ryan Salcido finished in 36th place after running 25:16.8 and Tristen Thomson completed the course in 25:26.0 to place 47th. The final score towards the team total was provided by Aidan Schraer who was 54th in 25:34.5.

Quinones worked her way into the top 20 with a time of 20:50.6 to place 19th overall. That time was the best of the team by over a minute and left the junior just under a minute off the winning time of 19:56.1 from Kristen Findley of Big Bear Track Club.

Newcomer Savanna Perez led a group of four Hornets who all finished within 30 seconds of each other. Perez ran 21:54.9 over the 6K course to rank 56th overall. Senior Gracie Albano was close behind in 22:01.3 to rank 62nd and was followed by Amelia Pear who ran 22:07.9 to finish in 67th place. Freshman Rachel Victor finished in 75th place with a time of 22:19.2.

National power Arkansas crushed the rest of the field to win the women's team title with 30 points. The Razorbacks were followed by Alabama (102), Utah Valley (140), UC Santa Barbrara (143) and Southern Utah (151) in the top five. Sacramento State compiled 272 points to finish in 10th place.

Southern Utah of the Big Sky Conference finished first in the men's race with 23 points. Utah Valley was second with 89 while Cal State Fullerton (130), Loyola Marymount (142) and UCSB (152) rounded out the top five. The Hornets finished sixth with 179 points.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Capitol Cross Challenge which the team hosts at Haggin Oaks Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 30.
