NEW ORLEANS — Fresh off a second place finish at the Stanford Invitational, the Sacramento State women's cross country team moved into 15th place in the West Region rankings, it was announced today by the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.
This week marks the first time that the Hornet women have been ranked in the top 15 this season. The team is the lone Big Sky Conference school in the West Region rankings compared to eight from the Pac-12.
At Stanford on Sept. 28, Rachel Mitchell finished fifth and Lauren Mugnaini sixth to spark the team to a second place finish. Sacramento State trailed only Stanford in the meet while finishing ahead of 13 other Div. I institutions.
Sacramento State will test its skills this week at the Inter-Regional Jamboree on Friday, Oct. 4, at Haggin Oaks Golf Course. The meet will give several teams an early look at the course for the NCAA West Regional which will be held Nov. 16.
