SACRAMENTO STATE AWARDED 2013 NCAA WEST REGIONAL
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The NCAA announced that Sacramento State was selected as one of nine hosts for the 2013 Div. I Cross Country regionals. The meet will take place on Friday, Nov. 15, at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
Along with Sacramento State, which will host the West Regional, the NCAA awarded regionals to Wisconsin, Lehigh, Iowa State, Weber State, Alabama, Baylor and Virginia. Sacramento State is the only school among the group which will be hosting a regional for the first time. The site of the Northeast Regional will be announced at a later date.
Sacramento State partnered with the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau to help bring the event to the area. Last year's West Regional in Seattle featured nearly 400 student-athletes with additional coaches and staff joining their teams. The West Region is comprised of all Div. I teams in California, Oregon, Washington as well as Arizona State.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to host a cross country meet of this magnitude," Sacramento State Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Kathleen Raske said. "Haggin Oaks is a large venue which allows us to have a legal start where there is no turn for the first 1,000 meters. It should be a flat, fast course at sea level which will create a fair playing field."
The meet is the latest in a long list of high-caliber track and field meets hosted by Sacramento State which includes a pair of U.S. Olympic Trials, five NCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Junior Olympics and World Master's Championships.
