CROSS COUNTRY TO HOST HORNET JAMBOREE ON SATURDAY

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State will host the annual Hornet Jamboree cross country meet on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Granite Regional Park. The meet will consist of seven races ranging from 2-4 miles an including participants from high school, college and post collegiate.

The day will begin at 7:45 with the 2-mile combined high school race. The boys freshman/sophomore race and girls freshman/sophomore race will follow. The 5K varsity boys high school race will start at 9:15 and girls varsity will immediately follow.

The collegiate competition will get under way with the women's 5K at 10:15 a.m. The men's 4-mile race will start at 10:45. Both collegiate races will also include open competitors.

This year's collegiate field includes Cal, UC Davis, Fresno State, Santa Clara, Cal State Monterey Bay, Holy Names, Dominican, Mills College, William Jessup and Oregon Tech.

Minnesota won last season's men's race and was led by individual champion Pieter Gagnon who ran 19:28. The women's team title was won by UC Davis. Cal's Deborah Maier had the fastest time in the race at 16:31.
