MEN FIFTH, WOMEN EIGHTH AT BIG SKY CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Sacramento State men's cross country team placed fifth and the women's team was eighth at the Big Sky Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Buffalo Park.

Host Northern Arizona had the top three individual finishers and easily won the men's team title with 24 points. Weber State was second at 54 while Southern Utah took third with 57.

In the women's competition, Weber State finished first with 29 points. Southern Utah (36) and Northern Arizona (112) completed the top three.

Mark Frazier led the Hornet men, completing the 8K course in 26:14.4 to place 21st. The senior posted the best time on the team at the Big Sky meet for the second consecutive season.

Domenic D'Acquisto ran 26:36.9 to finish 27th overall and rank second on the team. Ressey Byers, who has been the fastest runner for Sacramento State for most of the year, finished 33rd with a time of 26:45.6.

Kyle Lackner and Cole Younger contributed the final times towards the team total. Lackner ran 26:58.3 to place 38th while Younger crossed the line in 28:00.2 to finish 56th.

In the women's race, Justine Rea was the Hornet leader. Rea ran 18:36.2 to finish 28th. Amanda Garcia was just three spots back with a mark of 18:45.3.

Teresa Mallory ran the 5K course in 19:01.1 and finished 39th. Emily Johnston was 53rd in 19:25.6. Ashley Chavez ran 20:16.2 to place 69th.

Brian Shrader of NAU won the men's race with a time of 24:55.9. Teammates Matt McElry and Futsum Zienasellassie were both less than one second behind. Weber State's Amber Henry defended her title in the women's race. Henry ran 16:59.7.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Doc Adams Invitational at UC Davis on Nov. 3. The NCAA West Regional will take place on Nov. 9 in Seattle.
