WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY CAPTURES TEAM TITLE IN SAN FRANCISCO

SAN FRANCISCO — Justine Rea finished third and Chloe Berlioux fourth to lead the Sacramento State women's cross country team to its first victory of the season on Friday at Golden Gate Park.

The Hornets had three of the top 10 collegiate finishers in the race and scored 47 total points. Cal State Stanislaus was second with 59 while San Francisco completed the top three with 73 points.

Rea completed the 6K course at Speedway Meadow in 22:17. Her time placed her just 25 seconds behind Academy of Arts' Jenny Bergren who won the individual title. Berlioux crossed the line in 22:31 for her highest finish at Sacramento State.

Freshman Emily Johnston recorded the ninth fastest time by a collegiate athlete and finished 11th overall in 22:50. Sophomore Teresa Mallory was close behind in 22:55. Ashley Chavez provided the final time toward the team total, running 22:55 to finish 15th overall.

In a rare twist to the schedule, the Hornet women competed separate from the men in San Francisco. The men will take the course at the Pac-12 Preview in Los Angeles next weekend before both team return to action at the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 28
