VOLLEYBALL CLOSES REGULAR SEASON WITH SWEEP OF IDAHO STATE

POCATELLO, Idaho -- Senior Kazmiera Imrie and junior Sandra Bandimere each had 13 kills as Sacramento State closed out the regular season with a 3-0 (32-30, 30-25, 30-18) victory over Idaho State in a Big Sky Conference volleyball match Saturday evening at Reed Gym.

The Hornets limited Idaho State to just a .088 hitting percentage as the Bengals failed to hit anything better than .109 in all three games. Sacramento State senior Lisa Beauchene narrowly missed her eighth triple-double of the season as the Auburn, Wash., native finished with nine kills, 33 assists, 11 digs and three blocks.

Sacramento State finishes the regular season with a 21-11 overall record and a 12-2 Big Sky mark. After beginning the season with a 5-6 record, the Hornets have won 15 of their last 20 matches. The Hornets’ 12-2 conference record tied for the team’s second-best mark since Sacramento State joined the Big Sky in 1996. The 1998 team finished 15-1 while the 2001 squad went 12-2.

The Hornets finish the year in second place in the Big Sky standings and have now finished at least second every year since joining the conference. Sacramento State will have the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye at the Big Sky Tournament (Nov. 20-22) in Cheney, Wash. Eastern Washington finished the year with a 13-1 conference record and the regular-season championship.

Idaho State, which will be the No. 3 seed at the Big Sky Tournament, finished the regular season with a 19-8 overall mark and a 9-5 conference record. Prior to this season, the Bengals had finished no better than sixth in the conference standings over each of the last seven years.

Bandimere, Imrie and Beauchene combined for 35 of the Hornets’ 45 kills in the match as the team hit .218. Beauchene hit .500, committing just one error in 16 total attacks, while Imrie hit .423, with two errors in 26 attacks. Three Hornets finished with double figures in digs, comprising junior Mallory Hook (match-high 13), freshman Jennifer Ferguson (10) and Beauchene.

Freshmen Kristin Lutes and Shannon Roland, and junior Emily Wilson each missed the match with the flu.

Sacramento State has now held six of its last seven opponents to hitting percentage below .200. The Hornets moved to 18-0 when holding the opposition below .200.

Idaho State was led by Ali Gorny’s match-high 15 kills while Felice Yocopis had 11 kills, seven digs and three blocks.

With three blocks in tonight’s match, Beauchene became the first player in Sacramento State history to rank among the school’s top 10 career list in kills, digs, assists, hitting percentage, service aces and blocks.

Here is the match-ups for the Big Sky Tournament next weekend: Nov. 20 - No. 3 Idaho State vs. No. 6 Portland State (14-13, 3-11); No. 4 Montana State (17-10, 7-7) vs. No. 5 Northern Arizona (13-14, 7-7). Nov. 21 - No. 2 Sacramento State vs. the highest remaining seed; No. 1 Eastern Washington vs. the lowest remaining seed. Nov. 22 - championship match.
