9/27/2003

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Four Hornets tallied double figures in kills, including senior Lisa Beauchene’s fifth triple-double of the season, as the Sacramento State volleyball team defeated Northern Arizona, 3-0 (30-25, 30-18, 30-26), in the Big Sky Conference opener Saturday afternoon at the Hornets Nest.

The Hornets, who also tallied a season-high tying .339 hitting percentage, won their fourth straight while improving their record to 9-6 overall and 1-0 in the Big Sky. Sacramento State has now won eight of its last 10 matches after beginning the season with a 1-4 record. The Hornets also improved their record over Northern Arizona to 17-5 as the team has never lost to the Lumberjacks at home (10-0).

Northern Arizona lost for the fifth time in the last six matches while dropping to 6-7 overall and 0-1 in the Big Sky.

Despite the match lasting just three games, Beauchene tallied 11 kills, 36 assists, 10 digs, three blocks and a team-best .647 hitting percentage. The co-captain committed no errors in 17 total attacks. Other Hornets with double-figure kills included juniors Sandra Bandimere (13 kills, 379 hitting percentage) and Emily Wilson (12 kills, .579), and senior Kazmiera Imrie (11 kills, .391). Sacramento State hit .500 and .386 in games one and two, respectively.

Imrie has now hit at least .300 in six-consecutive matches while raising her season hitting percentage to .305. Wilson’s .579 hitting percentage was the highest of her career (min. 10 kills). Freshman Kristin Lutes led the team with 12 digs and extended her streak to 13-consecutive matches with double-figure digs.

The Hornets committed just 13 errors during the entire match as only one Hornet had more than two errors.

Northern Arizona, which hit .227 and had nine service errors, was led by Claire Robertson and Megan Van Anda who each had 11 kills. Van Anda had a match-high 14 digs for a double-double.

Sacramento State returns to action for match No. 2 of its five-match homestand on Tuesday, Sept. 30, against 16th-ranked Santa Clara. The Broncos will be the Hornets’ highest-ranked opponent of the season.
