STORRS, Conn. – Junior Lisa Beauchene recorded her fourth career triple-double (11 kills, 47 assists, 15 digs) and four Hornets recorded double figures in kills as the Sacramento State volleyball team defeated Temple, 3-2 (26-30, 22-30, 30-22, 30-28, 15-8), in the second day of the IKON Husky Invitational Saturday morning.The Hornets, who play host Connecticut this evening (4:30 p.m. PDT), increased their winning streak to five matches as the team is now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the tournament. Sacramento State erased a 2-0 deficit while recording its first five-game victory of the season.
Besides Beauchene, the Hornets’ Loretta Coffman (career-high and team-best 15 kills and a career-high 11 digs), senior Jayme Wright (14 kills, 19 digs) and junior Kazmiera Imrie (11 kills, 10 digs and nine blocks) each recorded double-figures in kills. Imrie missed her first career triple-double by one block while Wright notched her fourth double-double of the season.
A total of six Hornets finished with double-figures in digs as junior Ali Mathewson finished with a career-high 12 and junior Olivia Thomas notched 19. Sophomore Sandra Bandimere tallied nine kills, five digs and five blocks. Sacramento State and Temple finished with nearly identical statistics, but the Hornets held a distinct advantage in team blocks (16.0-11.0) while the Owls committed 21 service errors.
Temple (3-2) also had four players finish with double-figures in kills, led by Xu Yun (match-high 21 kills). The Owls’ Yamit Haba led all players with 32 digs.
