VOLLEYBALL IMPROVES TO 7-2 IN THE BIG SKY AFTER VICTORY OVER IDAHO STATE

10/26/2002

Junior Kazmiera Imrie
POCATELLO, Idaho – Senior Jayme Wright (13 kills, 11 digs), sophomore Sandra Bandimere (13 kills) and junior Kazmiera Imrie (12 kills) each tallied double figures in kills to lead Sacramento State to a 3-0 (30-23, 30-20, 30-21) victory over Idaho State in a Big Sky Conference volleyball match Saturday afternoon at Reed Gym.

The Hornets defeated Idaho State for the 12th-consecutive time over the last six years while improving its season record to 17-8 overall and 7-2 in the Big Sky. Sacramento State has won three of its last four, and now has just five conference matches remaining on the schedule. The Hornets are a half game back of first-place Eastern Washington (7-1), who hosts Montana tonight.

With the loss, Idaho State has dropped eight of its last 10 while falling to 8-14 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

Sacramento State hit .305 in the match as five different Hornets hit at least .293, comprising Bandimere (.348), Lisa Beauchene (.333, five kills, 40 assists and a match-high 17 digs), Imrie (.320), Emily Wilson (.313, seven kills and a match-high five blocks) and Wright (.293). Wright’s double-double was her 10th of the season.

Idaho State hit just .099 in the match, the sixth-lowest output the Hornets have allowed all season. No Bengal recorded double-figure kills as Melanie Tucker led the team with nine. Sacramento State badly outblocked Idaho State (10.0-6.0) as Wilson (five), Imrie (four) and freshman Shannon Arts (four) each tallied at least four blocks.

Sacramento State defeated Idaho State in five games earlier this season in Hornet Gym, but controlled the match from the outset tonight. The Hornets’ .305 hitting percentage marked the fourth time the team has hit above .300 this season.

The Hornets return to action next week for a non-conference match at Santa Clara (Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m.) and a home contest against conference-foe Northern Arizona (Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m.) The contest against Northern Arizona marks the first of a four-match homestand that also sees Sacramento State take on Saint Mary’s (Nov. 5), Montana (Nov. 7) and Montana State (Nov. 9) in Hornet Gym.

NOTES -- Sacramento State has just seven matches remaining on the regular-season schedule...head coach Debby Colberg has used the same starting lineup for each of the last five matches (Bandimere, Imrie, Wright, Arts, Beauchene and Wilson)...the Hornets improved their record to 15-1 when winning the first game of a match...against conference competition, Beauchene leads the team with 3.32 digs per game and a .368 hitting percentage...Wilson is averaging 2.08 kills per game and a .305 hitting percentage over her last seven matches...after having her streak of 10-straight contests with double-figure kills snapped last night, Bandimere responded with 13 today...Wright’s .293 hitting percentage was her highest mark since hitting .407 against Sam Houston State on Aug. 31...junior Ali Mathewson tallied nine digs and now has at least seven digs in eight of her last nine matches.
