VOLLEYBALL WINS THIRD IN A ROW, DEFEATS WEBER STATE, 3-1

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Lisa Beauchene recorded her third triple-double of the season (11 kills, 51 assists and 10 digs) and senior Jayme Wright tallied a match-high 19 kills as Sacramento State defeated Weber State, 3-1 (28-30, 30-23, 30-22, 30-17), in a Big Sky Conference volleyball match Saturday evening in Hornet Gym.

With the victory, Sacramento State won its third-straight contest while improving to 12-5 overall and 2-0 in the Big Sky. The Hornets have now won 21-straight regular season matches at home against conference competition. Weber State, which had won four of its last five, dropped to 9-6 overall and 0-2 in the Big Sky.

Beauchene’s triple-double was the sixth of her career as the setter also finished the match with a .476 hitting percentage (11-1-21) and a team-high tying four blocks. Wright, who had just one kill in game one, responded with 18 kills over the final three games. Sophomore Sandra Bandimere finished with 14 kills while freshman Mallory Hook tallied a career and match-high 21 digs. Junior Kazmiera Imrie (nine kills and four blocks) and sophomore Stephanie Gamst (career-high eight kills to go along with nine digs) also chipped in for the Hornets.

Sacramento State held Weber State to a .176 hitting percentage and has now held six of its last eight opponents under .200. After dropping the first game, the Hornets dominated the rest of the way finishing the match with a distinct advantage over Weber State in kills (70-51), assists (63-47) and hitting percentage (.262-.176).

Weber State had three players finish with double-figure kills comprising Holly Montano (11 kills, 19 digs), Stephanie Kropushek (13 kills, 11 digs and four blocks) and Michelle Smith (12 kills, .400 hitting percentage).

In game one, Weber State erased a 23-21 deficit by scoring nine of the final 14 points to win, 30-28. The Wildcats, who hit .231 and took advantage of five Hornet service errors, were led by Kropushek’s four kills.

In the second game, Sacramento State broke open a 7-7 tie by going on an 8-2 run and never trailed the rest of the frame. Weber State closed to within, 19-16, but could get no closer. Wright led all players in the game with seven kills as the Hornets hit .342.

The Hornets held Weber State to a .075 hitting percentage as the Hornets controlled the majority of game three. Sacramento State opened up a lead as large as nine points (25-16). Wright again led all players in the game with five kills.

In game four, the Hornets trailed just once (5-4) and used a 13-3 run to open up an insurmountable 25-12 lead. Wright accounted for three of the points during the run with kills, and again led all players with six kills.

Sacramento State completes its four-match homestand next Tuesday, Oct. 1, against 24th-ranked Pacific in Hornet Gym at 7 p.m.

NOTES -- The Hornets are now 12-4 all-time against Weber State and have never lost to the Wildcats at home (7-0)...three Hornets are hitting above .300 during the team’s three-match winning streak including Beauchene (.489), Imrie (.392) and Bandimere (.327)...Beauchene is now hitting .408 for the season and has hit at least .400 in 10 of her last 11 matches...Olivia Thomas quit the team prior to the San Francisco match for personal reasons...Hook is now the team’s libero...Bandimere has tallied at least 12 kills in eight of her last 10 matches...senior Trina Book sat out tonight’s match with a sprained ankle...Imrie has notched double-figure kills all but five times this season...Wright’s 19 kills was one off her season high (20), set against UNLV...Gamst started her first match of the season.
