VOLLEYBALL OVERCOMES 2-1 DEFICIT TO DEFEAT IDAHO STATE IN FIVE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Sandra Bandimere (20), junior Kazmiera Imrie (career-high 18) and senior Jayme Wright (17) each recorded double figures in kills to lead Sacramento State to a 3-2 (30-24, 24-30, 30-32, 30-16, 15-7) victory over Idaho State in a Big Sky Conference volleyball match Thursday evening in Hornet Gym.

The contest was the Big Sky opener for both teams as Sacramento State has now defeated the Bengals 11-straight times over the last six years. The Hornets, who have now won each of their last two matches, improved to 11-5 overall and 1-0 in the Big Sky. Idaho State dropped to 6-8 and 0-1 in the conference.

Sacramento State overcame its third 2-1 games deficit of the season as the team also defeated Temple and UNLV after dropping two of the first three games. The Hornets held Idaho State to a .030 and a -.158 hitting percentage in games four and five, respectively, as Sacramento State won both games handily. Overall, Sacramento State hit .239 for the match while limiting the Bengals to a .149 mark.

Besides the production of Bandimere, Imrie and Wright, freshman Shannon Arts recorded career highs in both blocks (six) and digs (seven) while sophomore Stephanie Gamst tallied a career-high six kills and a season-high 10 digs. Four Hornets recorded double figures in digs including Gamst, Bandimere (10), junior Lisa Beauchene (team-high 19) and freshman Mallory Hook (career-high 14). For Bandimere, tonight marked her second double-double of the season.

Hook has stepped in for Olivia Thomas as the team’s new libero. Gamst and Arts, who have combined to start one game all season, were used for the majority of both the fourth and fifth games of tonight’s match.

Beauchene finished with seven kills and 54 assists to go along with her 19 digs. Four Hornets hit at least .300 comprising Beauchene (.462), Imrie (.419), Bandimere (.366) and Gamst (.313).

Sacramento State held the statistical advantage over Idaho State in kills (79-61), assists (66-58), digs (81-78) and team blocks (13-10).

Kylie Gilmore (20 kills, 13 digs), Ali Gorny (16 kills) and Kellie DeHaas (match-high 26 digs) led Idaho State.

The Hornets play the third of their four-match homestand Saturday, Sept. 28, against Weber State at 7 p.m.

NOTES -- Sacramento State hadn’t lost a game at home to Idaho State since 1999 prior to dropping two tonight...after coming off the bench for the first 14 matches of the season, sophomore Natalie Melcher has started each of the last two contests...Beauchene has now hit at least .400 in nine of her last 10 matches...Imrie’s previous career high for kills was 15...the Hornets have now recorded double digits in team blocks in five of the last seven matches...Bandimere finished one kill short of her career high (21) and has now tallied double digits in kills in seven of her last nine matches.
