 Senior Jayme Wright now has 1,000 career kills and 1,084 career digs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Sandra Bandimere had a team-high 13 kills while junior Kazmiera Imrie added 11 kills to lead the Sacramento State volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-27, 30-20, 30-25) victory over San Francisco Wednesday evening at Hornet Gym.With the win, the Hornets improved to 10-5 overall and have now won 11 of the last 12 meetings with the Dons. Tonight’s contest marked the first of a four-match homestand as Sacramento State opens up Big Sky Conference play tomorrow (Thursday, Sept. 26) against Idaho State at 7 p.m. USF dropped its fourth in a row while falling to 4-12.
Bandimere hit .320 for the match as the outside hitter committed just five errors in 25 attacks. Imrie, who also recorded five blocks, hit a match-high .556, committing just one error in 18 total attempts. Senior Jayme Wright and junior Lisa Beauchene each had nine digs to lead the Hornets. With five kills, Wright also hit a milestone, collecting her 1,000th career kill. She now has 1,000 kills and 1,084 digs during her four-year career.
Sacramento State hit .288 for the match, its fourth-best output of the season. The Hornets also tallied 11.0 team kills, the most the team has recorded in a three-game match all season. Three Sacramento State players tallied at least five blocks comprising Imrie and sophomores Natalie Melcher (career-high five) and Emily Wilson (team-best six). Conversely, San Francisco hit .184 while committing nine service errors.
The Dons were led by Brittanie Budinger’s 15 kills and eight digs. Jencie Lejeune added nine kills and Francesca Pomilia had a team-best nine digs.
In game one, Sacramento State jumped out to a 7-3 lead and never looked back. The Dons would get no closer than two points of the Hornet lead the rest of the way despite the narrow 30-27 win. Both teams hit above .300 but Sacramento State took advantage of four USF service errors. Imrie led all players with six kills and a 1.000 hitting percentage (6-0-6).
With the score tied, 16-16, in game two, the Hornets went on a 5-0 run as Imrie served four of the five points. Sacramento State closed the game on a 9-2 run for the easy 30-20 victory. Bandimere led the Hornets with four kills.
In game three, Sacramento State used an 8-0 run to overcome a 20-19 San Francisco lead. Wilson served out seven points in a row, including three service aces. Wilson’s three aces were a career high. The Dons closed to within, 30-25, before an Amy Milo service error ended the game and contest.
After Thursday’s match with Idaho State, the Hornets will take on Big Sky-foe Weber State on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m.
