VOLLEYBALL BEATS WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE, INCREASES WINNING STREAK TO FOUR

STORRS, Conn. – Senior Jayme Wright led all players with 14 kills while junior Kazmiera Imrie added 10 kills to lead the Sacramento State volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-22, 30-21, 30-11) victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the first round of the IKON Husky Invitational Friday evening at Gampel Pavilion.

With the victory, the Hornets increased their winning streak to four matches long while improving to 4-1 overall this season. Wisconsin-Milwaukee, which has reached the NCAA Tournament each of the last four years, dropped to 1-3 overall with the loss.

Junior Lisa Beauchene (13 digs, 25 assists) and junior Olivia Thomas (13 digs) also chipped in for the Hornets, who led Wisconsin-Milwaukee in virtually every statistical category including kills (39-28), hitting percentage (.185-.037), digs (48-42) and service aces (7-0).

The Panthers committed 12 service errors while recording zero service aces. Sarah Potts led Wisconsin-Milwaukee with 13 kills and Kristen Krubsack finished with a team-best 10 digs.

In her first match of the season after returning from a sprained foot, sophomore Emily Wilson played all three games of the match while recording a career-high and match-best five blocks. Imrie’s 10 kills also accompanied a career-high tying four service aces and a match-best .412 hitting percentage (10-3-17).

Sacramento State returns to action tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 7) for the final day of the UConn Invitational as it takes on Temple (9 a.m. PDT) and host Connecticut (4:30 p.m. PDT).

NOTES -- All five of Sacramento State’s matches have gone three games this season...the Hornets added freshman outside hitter Kamala Sipin (Santa Cruz, Calif.) to the roster this week...Imrie has now hit at least .400 in four of five matches this season...head coach Debby Colberg has used the same starting lineup in four consecutive matches (Sandra Bandimere, Ali Mathewson, Loretta Coffman, Imrie, Wright and Beauchene).
