VOLLEYBALL EXTENDS WINNING STREAK TO EIGHT MATCHES, DEFEATS NEVADA

10/23/2001

Sophomore Kaz Imrie
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Junior Jayme Wright led all players with 19 kills while sophomore Kazmiera Imrie and senior Tasman Dwyer each chipped in 13 kills to lead the Sacramento State women’s volleyball team to a 3-1 (28-30, 30-21, 30-20, 30-19) victory over Nevada Tuesday evening in Hornet Gym.

The win marked the Hornets’ eighth-consecutive victory as Sacramento State (15-5) is now a season-high 10 wins over .500. The Hornets’ loss in game one of tonight’s match snapped a streak of 21-consecutive games won. The team fell just three games short of the Sacramento State Div. I-era record of 24-consecutive games won.

With the loss, Nevada, which entered the week receiving votes in the top 25, dropped to 13-4. Sacramento State is now 16-0 all-time at home against the Wolf Pack.

Sacramento State hit .344 for the match as the team has now hit at least .292 in each of its last six matches. Four Hornets hit above .300 including Imrie (.500), sophomore Lisa Beauchene (nine kills, .471), Dwyer (.440) and Wright (.350). Beauchene missed a triple-double by just one kills as the setter finished with 48 assists and 14 digs to go along with her nine kills. Wright, Beauchene and senior Kelly Voeltz each finished with 14 digs.

Nevada was led by Michelle More’s 14 kills while Suzanne Stonebarger chipped in 10 kills. The Wolf Pack were held to just a .128 hitting percentage as the Hornets have now held the opposition to a hitting percentage below .200 in all but seven matches this season.

Wright’s 14 digs marked the sixth-consecutive match in which the junior has either led or tied for the team lead in digs. Wright, who was just named Big Sky Conference Player of the Week, tied her season high with the 19 kills.

Dwyer and Imrie each finished with seven blocks as Sacramento State dominated at the net, outblocking Nevada, 15.0-7.0. All six Hornet starters finished with at least two blocks.

Sacramento State closes out its four-match homestand this Thursday, Oct. 25, as it welcomes 16th-ranked BYU to Hornet Gym. The Hornets close the week on Saturday, Oct. 27, as they travel to Flagstaff, Ariz., to face Big Sky-foe Northern Arizona.
