VOLLEYBALL WINS SEVENTH IN A ROW, SWEEPS IDAHO STATE

10/20/2001

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Senior Tasman Dwyer and sophomore Lisa Beauchene each had 14 kills to lead the Sacramento State women’s volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-13, 30-19, 30-26) victory over Idaho State in a Big Sky Conference matchup Saturday afternoon in Hornet Gym.

With the victory, the Hornets extend their season-high winning streak to seven matches as the team improved to 14-5 overall and 8-1 in the Big Sky. Sacramento State has also won 21-consecutive games, three shy of the school’s Div. I record of 24, set by the 1995 squad. Idaho State dropped to 7-13 and 2-7 in the conference.

Sacramento State, which currently sits alone atop the Big Sky standings, has not lost a match since Sept. 26 (a 3-0 defeat at Pacific). The Hornets have swept six-straight opponents and are 11-1 in three-game matches this season.

Dwyer’s 14 kills accompanied a .700 hitting percentage as the middle hitter had zero errors in 20 total attacks. Sacramento State hit a season-high .381 as four Hornets recorded a .500 hitting percentage or better including Beauchene (.706), sophomore Kazmiera Imrie (10 kills, .500) and senior Alison Gahr (seven kills, .778). The Hornets have now hit at least .290 in five-consecutive matches.

Junior Jayme Wright led the Hornets in digs for the fifth-consecutive match as the junior totalled 15. Senior Kelly Voeltz added 11 digs to round out the Hornets in double-figure digs. Idaho State was led by Melanie Tucker’s 10 kills.

Sacramento State controlled the match throughout as it held a commanding edge over the Bengals in kills (59-28), hitting percentage (.381-.085), assists (52-23) and digs (51-39).

The Hornets return to action next week for three matches, including two against non-conference opponents. Sacramento State hosts Nevada (Tuesday, Oct. 23, 7 p.m.) and 13th-ranked BYU (Thursday, Oct. 25, 7 p.m.) before travelling to Northern Arizona on Saturday, Oct. 27.
