VOLLEYBALL WINS FOURTH IN A ROW, SWEEPS PORTLAND STATE

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Senior Tasman Dwyer recorded a match-high 14 kills and junior Jayme Wright chipped in a match-high 13 digs to lead the Sacramento State volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-23, 30-16, 30-25) victory over Portland State in a Big Sky Conference matchup Friday evening at the Stott Center.

With the victory, the Hornets have now won four-consecutive matches and improved their record to 11-5 overall and 5-1 in the Big Sky. Additionally, Sacramento State has now won 12-consecutive games over its last four matches.

With the loss, Portland State dropped its fifth in a row while falling to 4-7 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Dwyer’s 14 kills included a season-high .600 hitting percentage as the middle hitter committed just two errors in 20 total chances. Sophomore Kazmiera Imrie added eight kills for the Hornets and setter Lisa Beauchene recorded six kills, four blocks and 38 assists. Beauchene also hit .600 and has now combined to hit .606 (22-2-33) over her last three matches.

Sacramento State hit .340 for the match, its second-highest mark against any team this season. The Hornets held Portland State to a .231 hitting percentage and have now beaten the Vikings 16-consecutive times over the last 12 seasons.

Junior Loretta Coffman started in place of Alison Gahr (injured Achilles) and finished the match with three kills, two digs and two blocks. Wright’s 13 digs comes only four days after spraining her ankle in practice.

Portland State was led by Richell Wilson (13 kills) and Kristina Thom (nine kills). The Vikings had no player finish with more than seven digs in the match.

Sacramento State looks to improve its winning streak Saturday, Oct. 13, as it travels to Eastern Washington for a 7 p.m. match. The Eagles have won 30 of their last 31 matches at home.
