SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State held Montana to a .064 hitting percentage and sophomore Kazmiera Imrie recorded a team-high 10 kills to lead the Hornets to a 3-0 (30-14, 30-22, 30-22) victory over the Grizzlies in a Big Sky Conference matchup Saturday afternoon in Hornet Gym.With the victory, Sacramento State swept both Montana State and Montana in back-to-back days as it improved its record to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in the Big Sky. Additionally, the Hornets have won seven of their last nine matches and have also been victorious in 13-staight conference matches at home. With the loss, Montana dropped to 4-9 and 1-5 in the Big Sky.
The Hornets hit .303 for the match and held the advantage over the Grizzlies in virtually every statistical category including kills (46-29), assists (42-26), digs (54-41) and team blocks (8.0-4.0). Imrie’s 10 kills included a .368 hitting percentage while sophomore Lisa Beauchene chipped in eight kills, a .636 hitting percentage, 29 assists and eight digs. Junior Jayme Wright led the Hornets with 15 digs while senior Kelly Voeltz also finished in double-figure digs with 11.
Montana was paced by Lindsay Kaiser who recorded 10 kills while Audra Pearce led the team with 11 digs.
Sacramento State broke open a 10-8 lead in game one by running off 20 of the next 26 points to easily take the opening frame. The Hornets hit .400 as Wright led all players with five kills.
In game two, Montana jumped out to a 19-18 lead before Sacramento State cracked off a 9-0 run as Voeltz served out eight-straight points. The Griz could not recover from there as they got no closer than six points the rest of the way. Imrie, Wright, Tasman Dwyer and Beauchene each recorded three kills in the game.
Montana jumped out to a 4-3 lead in game three before the Hornets went on a 8-1 run to take an 11-5 lead. The Hornets extended their lead to 19-11 as the Grizzlies would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Sacramento State returns to action next week as they travel to Portland State (Friday, Oct. 12) and Eastern Washington (Saturday, Oct. 13).
