MISSOULA, Mont. – Senior Sandra Bandimere posted season highs in both kills (23) and hitting percentage (.488) as Sacramento State easily handled Montana, 3-0 (30-16, 30-16, 30-20), in a Big Sky Conference volleyball match Saturday evening at West Auxiliary Gym.Bandimere, who posted a career-high 27 kills at Montana during her sophomore season, had just three errors in 41 total attacks. Sacramento State hit a season-high .387 to run its record to 12-5 and 2-1 in the Big Sky. One night after losing to Montana State in three games, the Hornets posted 58 kills, 51 assists and 73 digs despite the match lasting just three games.
In the process, Sacramento State defeated the Grizzlies for the 10th-straight time as the team hasn’t lost to Montana since the 1999 season. Montana dropped to 3-11 and 0-4 in the conference.
Bandimere was the only Hornet with double figures in kills, but Sacramento State had four players hit better than .300 comprised of junior Shannon Arts (eight kills, career-high .583 hitting percentage), senior Stephanie Gamst (six kills, .556) and senior Emily Wilson (four kills, .333). One night after posting a season-worst 11 receiving errors, Sacramento State had just two in tonight’s match.
The Hornets hit .375, .410 and .378 in games 1-3, respectively, as Montana had just one lead during the entire match (1-0 in game three). The Hornets limited Montana to a .134 hitting percentage and took advantage of 11 Grizzly service errors as the match lasted just one hour and 20 minutes.
Four Hornets had double figures in digs comprised of sophomore Kristin Lutes (match-high 19), sophomore Atlee Hubbard (17), Bandimere (13) and Gamst (11). The double-double for Bandimere (kills and digs) was her team-high 11th of the season.
Montana was led by Audrey Jensen’s 11 kills while Jackie White and Ashley Gorham each had 12 digs.
Sacramento State returns home next week as the team takes on Portland State (Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.) and Eastern Washington (Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.). The Hornets’ match against Portland State will mark the team’s first home contest since hosting Saint Mary’s on Sept. 21.
