SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Senior Sandra Bandimere tallied a match-high 20 kills to go along with 21 digs and a .362 hitting percentage to lead Sacramento State to a 3-0 (30-20, 30-22, 30-20) victory over San Jose State in the third round of the Sacramento State Volleyball Invitational Saturday morning at the Hornets Nest.With the victory, Sacramento State improved to 3-0 at the tournament and has swept all three opponents. If the Hornets defeat Oregon in tonight’s match (7:30 p.m.), they would be crowned tournament champions by virtue of an undefeated record. San Jose State entered today’s match with a 2-0 record (including a victory over Oregon) prior to the loss.
Bandimere had six kills in the first game, eight in the second game, and six more in the third as the team captain recorded her third match this season with at least 20 kills. In addition, Bandimere increased her career total to 1,126 kills and moved into 10th place all-time in the Hornets’ career record books.
Senior Emily Wilson added eight kills, a .318 hitting percentage (8-1-22), six digs and a season-high nine blocks. Wilson, who now has at least eight blocks in three of her last five matches, increased her season hitting percentage to a team-best .322. Junior Shannon Arts joined Bandimere with double figures in kills as the middle hitter finished with 10.
Sacramento State tallied 94 digs, the team’s highest output in three games this season. Three Hornets had 20-plus digs, comprised of Bandimere, and sophomores Atlee Hubbard (21) and Kristin Lutes (team-high 23). Sacramento State’s defense limited San Jose State to just 33 kills and a .049 hitting percentage.
The Spartans were led by Carrie Nash’s 12 kills and 20 digs, and Jessie Shull’s match-high 24 digs.
