FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- Sophomore Shannon Roland led all players with a career-high 16 kills, including a .485 hitting percentage, as Sacramento State swept past Colgate, 3-0 (30-18, 30-19, 30-17), in the second round of the Nanook Volleyball Classic Saturday afternoon at the Patty Center.The Hornets, who improved to 2-0 at the tournament coupled with Friday night’s sweep of UMKC, hit .331 in the match as seven different players hit at least .400. Roland, a native of Auburn, Calif., had 16 kills without an error in 33 total attacks, as she also posted career highs in hitting percentage, digs (eight) and blocks (four).
Sacramento State has yet to drop a game in the tournament as neither UMKC or Colgate has scored more than 20 points in a game. The Hornets will face host Alaska-Fairbanks tonight (9 p.m. PST) as they try to earn the tournament championship.
Roland was the only Hornet with double figures in kills, as freshman Lindsay Haupt (season-high seven kills, a .636 hitting percentage and three blocks), senior Emily Wilson (seven kills, .500 hitting percentage), senior Sandra Bandimere (four kills, .500 hitting percentage), sophomore Atlee Hubbard (six kills, one ace and nine digs), and juniors Mallory Hook (two aces and a team-best 10 digs) and Shannon Arts (six kills) also chipped in to the victory.
The Hornets dominated Colgate in kills (52-28), hitting percentage (.331-.082), assists (43-23), team blocks (11-2) and service aces (7-4).
Colgate was led by Marybeth Maziarz’s nine kills while Natalie Rawson had a match-high 20 digs.
