VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS UC RIVERSIDE, IMPROVES TO 8-3

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Senior Atlee Hubbard tallied 15 kills and 12 digs, and junior Michelle Franz added 12 kills, four aces and a match-high nine blocks to lead Sacramento State to a 3-1 (30-20, 28-30, 30-15, 30-25) victory over UC Riverside in the third round of the Sacramento State Volleyball Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Hornets Nest.

With the victory, Sacramento State improved to 2-1 at the tournament and 8-3 overall. The Hornets, who will play Syracuse later tonight (7:30 p.m.) to conclude tournament play, have now won five of their last six matches. With the loss, UC Riverside dropped to 1-9, and finished the tournament with a 1-3 record.

Sacramento State tallied 15.0 team blocks, including nine from Franz, six from junior Lindsay Haupt and senior Leah Klemenhagen, and three from Hubbard. Haupt also had 12 kills and a team-best .409 hitting percentage. Senior Shannon Roland added nine kills and a .280 hitting percentage, and sophomore setter Rose Burke tallied 37 assists and 10 digs.

The Hornets are in the midst of a stretch that will see the team play six home matches in a span of eight days. Sacramento State, which has yet to lose consecutive matches this season, had 72 more digs today and now average 18.90 digs per game.
