STEPHANIE GAMST NAMED TO THE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State senior setter Stephanie Gamst was among 18 female student-athletes who were selected to the 2004 Academic All-District VIII Volleyball team, it was announced today. The district consists of all Div. I institutions in nine states on the West Coast.

Gamst, who is a three-time Big Sky Conference All-Academic selection, was named to the all-district third team. Among the 18 student-athletes to receive the honor, seven were named to the first team, five received second team honors and six were named to the third team. Gamst currently has a 3.77 gpa as a liberal studies major and is on pace to graduate next month.

The Los Alamitos, Calif., native is one of three Hornets to start all 28 matches this season and is currently third in the Big Sky with 11.95 assists per game. Gamst has recorded double figures in digs in eight of her last nine matches, and is fourth in the Big Sky with 14 double-doubles (assists and digs). She has posted a career-high tying 17 digs twice in the last three matches.

She has at least 50 assists in each of her last four matches and has reached that mark 10 times overall this season. The setter has recorded single-match career highs in virtually every statistical category, including a .600 hitting percentage (6-0-10) against Portland State earlier this year.

Gamst has been named to the Sacramento State Dean''s List seven times during her tenure with the team and is currently a member of both the Golden Key Society and Phi Kappa Phi (the nation''s oldest and most selective honor society).

To be eligible for Academic All-District honors as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 gpa (on a 4.0 scale), must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution, and must have competed in at least 50 percent of the team''s competitions.

Sacramento State (21-7, 9-3 Big Sky) has just two matches remaining on the regular-season schedule as the team hosts Idaho State tonight (Thursday, Nov. 11, 7 p.m.) and Portland State on Saturday (Nov. 13, 7 p.m.).
