SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The list of honors for Sacramento State senior setter Lisa Beauchene continued Wednesday when she was named honorable mention all-Pacific Region by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).Beauchene becomes the first Hornet to earn all-region honors since Jill Haas received the honor in 1995. The award caps an incredible season for Beauchene in which she was also named Big Sky Conference MVP, Big Sky Tournament MVP and unanimous first team all-Big Sky. She was also named Big Sky Player of the Week a conference-record tying five times and was named all-tournament at each of the four tournaments Sacramento State competed in this season.
The all-Pacific Region team consisted of 12 student-athletes while six others were named honorable mention. The Pacific Region contains many teams on the West Coast, including volleyball powers USC, Stanford, Santa Clara, Washington, Pepperdine, Arizona, Cal, Loyola Marymount and UCLA.
Beauchene, who joined Tasman Dwyer (2001), Maureen Rafferty (1999) and Jill Haas (1996) as the fourth Sacramento State player to be named Big Sky MVP since the team joined the conference in 1996, was one of only three setters named to the all-region team (USC’s Toni Anderson and Pepperdine’s Melissa Mehlhorn were the others).
A three-time unanimous first team all-Big Sky selection, the Auburn, Wash., native finished the season ranked third in the conference in assists (11.14 per game), fourth in hitting percentage (.337) and sixth in blocks (0.97 per game). She also averaged 3.11 digs per game and 0.26 service aces per game.
The team co-captain, who never missed a match during her four-year career and started 128-consecutive contests, led the Big Sky in triple-doubles (seven) and double-doubles (25). In the Sacramento State career record books, Beauchene ranks first all-time in hitting percentage (.348) and triple-doubles (18), third in assists (5,153), seventh in service aces (107) and solo blocks (49) and 10th in blocks (340). Beauchene was ranked 10th in program history in kills (893) until teammate Sandra Bandimere passed her on the list this season.
