SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State volleyball program announced today that student-athlete Lindsay Haupt has signed with the program and will enroll as a freshman at the University in the fall of 2004.Haupt, a 6-1 outside/middle hitter from Etna, Calif., was a four-year star at Etna High School. She led the Lions to the state quarterfinals and a pair of Shasta Cascade League championships in 2002 and 2003. Haupt was named league MVP as a senior after tallying 340 kills, 178 digs, 112 blocks and a .349 hitting percentage.
“I really like Lindsay’s all-around athletic ability,” Sacramento State head coach Debby Colberg said. “She is a quality hitter and I like the fact she can play at both the outside and middle hitter positions. She can hit different types of sets and we can use her in more ways than some of the hitters we have on the team now.”
Haupt was named to numerous all-tournament teams during her career and led Etna High School to a combined conference record of 23-1 during the 2002 and 2003 seasons. She also played two years of club volleyball for the Shasta Creations, where she was teammates with current Sacramento State outside hitter Jennifer Ferguson. In addition, Haupt played four years of softball at Etna where she was named all-league and team MVP as a senior after hitting .455.
The inking of Haupt marks Sacramento State’s first signee during the early signing period. The Hornets just completed their 2003 season in which the team posted a 23-12 overall record, won its seventh-consecutive Big Sky Conference title, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in seven years.
