SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State senior setter Lisa Beauchene received her fifth Big Sky Conference Volleyball Player of the Week award of the season – tying a conference record – as she led the volleyball team to a 2-1 record last week, including road sweeps of Weber State and Idaho State.The Auburn, Wash., native, who shared this week’s player of the week award with Eastern Washington’s Keva Sonderen, also received the honor on Sept. 8, Sept. 15, Oct. 20 and Nov. 3. Beauchene’s five conference player of the week awards ties a Big Sky record, set in 1998 by Eastern Washington’s Kim Exner. Beauchene has now been named the Big Sky’s top weekly player nine times during her career.
In three matches last week, the team co-captain combined for per game averages of 2.22 kills, 11.56 assists, 3.22 digs and 1.11 blocks to go along with a .349 hitting percentage. Beauchene, who currently has a .347 hitting percentage, narrowly missed her eighth triple-double of the year against Idaho State with nine kills, 33 assists, 11 digs, three blocks and a .500 hitting percentage.
Against Weber State, Beauchene had seven kills, 43 assists, six digs, five blocks and a .462 hitting percentage. In the team’s loss to Pacific, Beauchene had four kills, 28 assists and 12 digs.
She recently became the first player in Sacramento State history to rank among the school’s top 10 career list in kills, digs, assists, hitting percentage, service aces and blocks. Beauchene is currently first all-time in hitting percentage (.351), third in assists (5,011), seventh in digs (1,377) and aces (107), and 10th in blocks (326) and kills (879).
Sacramento State (21-11, 12-2) has the No. 2 seed for this week’s Big Sky Tournament (Nov. 20-22) in Cheney, Wash. The Hornets will receive a first-round bye in the tournament and face the highest remaining seed (Idaho State, Montana State or Northern Arizona) in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m. The Hornets have won the Big Sky regular season and/or tournament championship each of the last six years.
