SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State senior middle hitter Kazmiera Imrie was named Big Sky Conference Volleyball co-Player of the Week after leading the Hornets to victories over Portland State and Eastern Washington last week.Imrie, who also received conference player of the week honors on Oct. 6, shared the award with Montana’s Lizzie Wertz. A Sacramento State player has now been awarded Big Sky player of the week honors a program- and conference-record seven times this season (senior setter Lisa Beauchene – Sept. 8, Sept. 15, Oct. 20, Nov. 3; junior middle hitter Emily Wilson – Sept. 22). The previous conference record was six, set by both Montana and Idaho in 1994.
In two matches last week, Imrie combined for 4.00 kills, 1.43 blocks and 1.00 digs per game to go along with a team-best .439 hitting percentage. The Fairfield, Calif., native, who combined to commit just three errors in two matches, totalled 28 kills in 57 attacks.
Against Portland State, the team co-captain tallied 15 kills, a .483 hitting percentage five digs and a match- and season-high eight blocks. She followed up that effort against Eastern Washington with 13 kills, a .393 hitting percentage, two digs and two blocks.
Imrie has hit at least .390 in six of her last eight matches, raising her hitting percentage to a season-high .323. In addition, Imrie has tallied double figures in kills 21 times this year and is second on the Hornets in hitting percentage and kills (3.15 per game). Among Big Sky leaders, she is fifth in hitting percentage and ninth in kills.
Sacramento State (19-10, 10-2 Big Sky) closes out the regular season this week with three matches on the road against non-conference opponent Pacific (Tuesday, Nov. 11) and Big Sky-foes Weber State (Friday, Nov. 14) and Idaho State (Saturday, Nov. 15). The Hornets are currently one game back of Eastern Washington (11-1) for first place in the conference standings and the right to host the Big Sky Tournament (Nov. 20-22).
