SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Four Hornets tallied double figures in kills as Sacramento State closed out its regular-season home portion of the schedule with a 3-1 (30-19, 30-21, 27-30, 30-22) victory over Montana State in a Big Sky Conference volleyball match Saturday evening in Hornet Gym.Senior Jayme Wright led all players with 16 kills while sophomore Sandra Bandimere (15), junior Kazmiera Imrie (15) and sophomore Emily Wilson (11) also recorded double figures in kills for the Hornets.
With the victory, Sacramento State won its fourth in a row and improved to 21-9 overall and 10-2 in the Big Sky. The Hornets remain a game back of first-place Eastern Washington (11-1) in the Big Sky standings with two matches to play. Sacramento State and Eastern Washington square off next Friday, Nov. 15, in Cheney, Wash., in a match that will likely decide the regular-season conference championship. If the Hornets beat Eastern Washington on Friday and Portland State on Saturday (Nov. 16) they will become the first team in Big Sky history to win six-straight Big Sky regular season championships.
Should the Hornets win the conference championship, they would host the Big Sky Tournament which takes place Nov. 21-23. Hornet Gym has served as the host site for the Big Sky Tournament each of the past five years.
Freshman Mallory Hook led all players with a career-high tying 23 digs while junior Lisa Beauchene (15) and Wright (14) also posted double-figure digs for the Hornets. Wright’s double-double was the 40th of her career. Beauchene finished with six kills, 56 assists and a .313 hitting percentage to go along with her 15 digs. Bandimere (.333), Imrie (.353) and senior Loretta Coffman (.750) also hit above .300 for the Hornets.
Sacramento State tallied 13.0 team blocks (including Wilson’s career-high 11) and limited the Bobcats to a .139 hitting percentage. Montana State hit .106, .122, .229 and .120, respectively, in games one through four.
Aimee Halyk led Montana State with 15 kills while Ana Schanze (11 kills), LeAnn Kinvig (11 kills, 13 digs) and Kiki Pemoller (14 digs) also chipped in for the Bobcats.
Sacramento State closes out the regular season with a 10-1 record at home, including a 7-0 mark against conference competition. The Hornets have now won 26-consecutive regular-season matches against Big Sky competition in Hornet Gym.
NOTES -- With four victories in a row, Sacramento State is three wins shy of its season-high seven-game winning streak (Aug. 30-Sept. 12)...the Hornets defeated Eastern Washington in Cheney, Wash., last year (3-0) and have won three-straight regular-season matches over the Eagles...Imrie went over the 300-kill plateau and now has a career-high 301 this season...Bandimere has tallied double-figure kills in 19 of her last 23 matches...Imrie is averaging 3.00 kills and 1.41 blocks per game to go along with a .289 hitting percentage over her last six matches...junior Ali Mathewson had four service aces, tying her career high...Hook also had 23 digs at Northern Arizona...Beauchene has now hit at least .300 in all but nine matches this season.
